That masaki look. Yuu may have misinterpreted it.
He had no reason the be there
Over the chapters we seen this new Yoshito guy, the author made him say over and over the reason he fights, and what he left on the streets.
This was a fight of purpose, which yuu lacked, rather didn't find completely, actually.
The way this volume ends is the best possible, shin is reassuring him, in a way.
It isn't over.
Yuu will find his reason

This series started extremely good, but it seems now that it's fallen into a formulaic and annoying pattern where he's this incredible genius fighter, and then gets caught off-guard and loses because of some psychological reason and then loses heart because he's fragile and melodramatic, and then he has to be built back up again by advice or introspection or whatever until he comes back and reclaims victory by being an incredible genius fighter. Kind of a shame... Hope it breaks out of this cycle and improves as I keep going on.

Yeah it really was about the brutal reality of street fighting, but unfortunately the throughline for someone like Yuu is to discover that street fighting is not something you can do for long before someone gets hurt or killed permanently, to speak nothing of gang fights and escalations.

So Yuu would either switch to a martial arts gym or grow out of fighting entirely, which would probably spell the end of the manga. Rather than face that, they're just treading water with the exact same beats, over and over again.
