And this was such a nice build up too,unless there's some sort of surprise waiting for us.

This was pretty neat. It wasn’t really amazing by any standard but the fact that they were establishing an economy in such a dangerous place was so cool. Especially since they showed the actual bandits who tried to rob them and they weren’t afraid to show how cutthroat the place could be.

Felt more like an end of Vol. 1 or a prologue; but I guess the axe cares not. It's a shame, it had potential and i definitely want to know more of MC and his ghost(?) female companion' backstories. Did not anticipate the MC getting ceded power, I had bet the other boss would have tried to keep the position, but there wasn't even a fight for it. Long run, I would anticipate the inner powers trying to use force to control the MC's vending machines and failing miserably before a mass dungeon outbreak forced a 'mutual' cooperation.

I'm sorry, any world where POTATOES are expensive would not be able to sustain life. They're one of the cheapest, easiest foods to grow. You can do it by ACCIDENT by just leaving them in a dark cabinet for too long.

They still need actual farm land to grow in any reasonable amount. And you still need fertilizer for intensive growing. A sizable portion of the world building was that the Inner Area has enough security to stop all the monsters and consequently is a smaller total area than the other regions. I can see the Outer areas being used as ersatz farmland to feed the Inner Areas, but still have to deal with all the Giant Rats occasionally eating crops. So, definitely a crop, just not a readily accessible one.

Maybe with all the monster incense being used, they've reduced the Giant Rat Population enough that they can easily farm it without a lot of crop loss. 500 Yen per Kilo, isn't that much money. But 3000 Yen per Kilo means the outer areas are way more calorie restricted aside from the ration meals.
