As a friend of mine once said, "Hot solder hurts you, but warm solder insults you."
Seriously though, if it's really hot, it's more like a quick jab that you can pull back from, like tapping a hot stove. Whereas warm solder is cool enough to stick to your skin, but still hot enough to hurt you.
