Yeah, for my American mind I consider heaters and air conditions two separate things.

If I'm being somewhat pedantic, the air handler is usually common to both the heating and cooling systems if both use air (as opposed to the former using radiant), but the heating and cooling apparatuses are not the same.

It's what's called a minisplit heat exchanger. It both cool and heat by changing the direction of the heat exchange medium.
