Whoever you are Tsuzuri, you better just stay in your lane and not get between these two

I sort of am looking for more of what his mom thinks. She only got a thought bubble in her one cameo—but she played it well. (She knows he’s nuts but seems to have a dry sense of humor about it).

Two things to note here. When she says "I like it a lot" she just says "好き" (suki) which out of context can literally just mean "I like you" or "I love you," which is why they get so flustered. The second thing is that the person that sends Nakayama the message on his phone at the end is saved with their name ending in "chan," implying that it's a girl that he is close to.

I wish TLs would just keep the name-ending words in (it’s a good TL otherwise though).

The 好き thing is likely impossible to handle without a note, the grammar is just too different.

I hope this person is related to his fear of germs, and will result in him progressing in overcoming it.

Or the author just decided to toss in a random love rival RIGHT when it was going so well.

I've been wracking my brain trying to think of how you'd translate the ambiguity of what she says into English without just having to effectively write something else entirely for the whole scene.

The closest I could get was changing it from ambiguity over what he hears her say, and more that he's simply "overcome" by her in that moment, and then they both get flustered over his reaction.

But that's just way too much of a change to the scene as a whole and misses the "misunderstanding" of the original in the first place, so, yeah.

Really unfortunate that there's no good way to convey the nuance of this specific scene trope in manga.

Yeah, this is a case where a TL note is the best way imo. This is a very good translation thogh imo, dont get me wrong, though it could have kept the honorific and a little TL note would be nice (which is the purpose of my comment, really).

He did way better than I thought.

As did she. Her not pushing him in speaks volumes to how she has changed, as well. Glad to see that it's not only him that has to "make the effort" in this series.

Does seem like we might be getting more backstory for him and his germ aversion; this chapter's the first time he laments that part of him, which tells me it's a more a compulsion, and less an active choice on his part.

But she's there beside him, going at his pace, and that's big.

Looking forward to the next. Thanks for the TL
You said pretty much everything I wanted to. (y) I feel like every chapter has some kind of character development. Only on chapter 13, feels like chapter 50 of most other slice of life rom coms.

Ye when I saw the page with 好き I found their reactions a bit weird so I went to check the French translation and in that one it’s translated as “I love you” which also doesn’t fit with part of their reaction. I agree that a note would probably be the only way since there is no equivalent to 好き in French or English given the context

"I'm in love" is similar vague complete English sentance and saying you love something you really enjoy is possible in English. Saying you love a season is not uncommon. "You like summer?" "I'm in love. with summer, I love this time of year" Would be a little strange phrasing, but would help sell why she had to clarify.
