Kobayashi is right for wanting to know why she hates him. BUT, his tone and vibe is super off. He’s not coming off like he genuinely wants to build a good relationship with his “girlfriend’s friends”. He’s being accusatory and using you statements (you’re so cold) rather than I statements (I sense a distance between us that I would like to bridge). He’s communicating to assert his position and NOT to resolve the problem.

He does not owe her a resolution to whatever the problem she has with him, and he did not sign up to being good pals with friends of his girlfriend. She more or less openly antagonises him, so he confronts her in as neutral terms as possible, and gives her the opportunity to resolve her problems with him here and now.

Completely agree. If he's actually trying to smooth things over, he's approaching it with the wrong tone. "Hey, what's your problem with me?" is not a good foundation. She's also entirely within her right both to be hurt and to not want to share it, especially with the person responsible even if inadvertently.

From my reading, it feels like a combination of being offended at her attitude and wanting to secure the boyfriend position, not true interest in getting to know Mahiru. Next chapter will tell, but I doubt he'll drop the topic like he should at this point. It's clearly not a constructive conversation.

Exactly this, I was pretty surprised by so many comments saying he's doing the right thing and Mahiro's overreacting. Seems obvious to me (at least the way it's being shown in his expressions and words) that he's not being genuine in getting along and is trying to assert his position instead of actually being considerate of his new girlfriend.

Mahiro wasn't right for her short relationship comment, but he keeps pushing and instigating after she's already told him it's his business to do what he wants and to leave her alone. Anyone who has yet to deal with someone like that is lucky

He gives kinda icky vibes. From the speed by which he's gotten into a relationship with her friend, to the overtly blunt way hes dealing with her. My soul read is he's a classic fuckboy.

First he pumps, then he dumps. And she's stuck cleaning up the mess as her friend comes to terms with such a classic fuckboy experience. Or maybe I'm wrong and it goes homophobic route, but I can totally see the plot going that way. Being good at reading people DOES mean you can be equally good at manipulating them.

Plus its in line with the "I don't think he'd be a good boyfriend quote from before". Guys can easily be friends with other guys that are scummy towards women like that. And either never know or not care.

Could be both. Dude can be a fuckboy thats homophobe too. Would make the drama even bigger - pump-dumping the girlie crush but also exposing the lesbo stuff - double whammy on the girlie, double drama, double trouble for the lesbian girl to battle with, especially if author decides to make girlie also homophobic.
