Is it weird that I actually prefer this to the weird Sphere heads? At least they seem more like themselves. I had kinda been under the assumption that the original personality was destroyed by the Parasite.

I think it’s more like the parasite messing with the victim’s perception; like those brain-controlling worms that make insect hosts do things they normally wouldn’t, such as drowning themselves so the worm can continue its life cycle. Once the parasite dies, they regain their senses, but the scar remains.

I'm the sort of person that's usually fine with horror, but this chapter actually does make me feel extremely uncomfortable. Something about Honma becoming lucid again and panicking and not realizing what's happened is just... I dunno. She realizes that she's going to die, but she doesn't even know why. Just a sudden shift from "everything going perfectly, going off into the world to fulfill your dream" to pure pain.

I'm sure it won't happen, but I really hope that they find someway to save her. Hopefully this is the push Yuki needs to actually try and solve this problem.

the grab on page 15 actually made me jump. this whole chapter is so awful and visceral…it’s great

maybe this will also help Yuki realize it isn’t “wrong” of her to see things as they really are. if she didn’t see the truth and reach out, then Honma would be dying all alone, with everyone else just standing around in a circle praising her.

You can see the skeleton beneath the translucent skin. That's wild. And the fact that you're dead man walking the moment you're infested, everyone is screwed...and the master parasite is still out there.
You might not be dead as soon as you’re infected, but life afterwards isn’t exactly going to be pleasant.

What I want to know is how the old man with the parasite survived so long? By staying in the village did he exist in an environment where the parasites were able to reproduce thereby extending the lifecycle, and because Honma “left” they weren’t?

But yeah, I doubt very much that Yuki will let Ai experience the same fate, or it will spur her on to take some form of action. Because yeah, Ai’s fate is NOT gonna be good one way or the other!

I think the baby parasite need host to grow until its reach the end of its baby life cycle and need to join the main host in order to survive.
Also can someone remind me who is Honma again?
:worry:
The one who get sent off to the tunnel after the former main host is killed?

It was naive of her to think the balloon head would last. looks like the old man was a much better way to go given the circumstances

Suddenly waking up from a nice dream into a real nightmare of pure pain and anguish. Poor Honma, it's not her fault.
The worst part is those under the influence of the parasite (people she knows) have no recognition of her suffering even as it occurs right in front of them. I hope this trauma disabuses our MC of the notion that this is all just something that needs to be lived with.

To compound the horror, in real life sufferers of mental disease such as Alzheimer's often experience a relapse of cognition improvement and clarity shortly before death known as Terminal Lucidity which I'm afraid is occurring here.

Wow, that's even more horrible. And from the sounds of it, the scientists are confirming there's no cure once it gets to this situation. I'm wondering, given what they say, if the death of the parasite (and resulting death of the host) disrupts the perception-altering effect of the parasites and people will see the reality of the situation. That could be quite bad, given panic and all.

Hhhhoooooohhhhhhhooohhhhhauauughghghghghghhgg.

Welp. And this is why that BS the teacher- who remember is An Authority Figure Whos Supposed To Know What to Do- told her, heavy with guilt (it'll be YOUR fault!) and blindness. He never had to deal with the parasite-infected coming back so he got to pretend it was just Going Away!!!!!!

And I think this chapter also kind or reveals our protagonists plans were.... functionally suicidal even in her 'acceptance'.

But its interesting the dead parasites still cause the mental effects....
