He's gonna say he broke the vase instead of her, and she fell in love with him because of this (and maybe a bunch of other) selfless act of kindness, which gonna make her realise that he's always sacrificing himself for other, which will make her realise her selfishness in this situation, so she will decide that she too can do a selfless act, and she's gonna get back to help him save the blond girl, or continue to the stage as a fakeout and reveal the location of the kidnappers in front of the cameras.

Bonus points if the blond girl also appear in the flashback and show herself to be nice and selfless to the heroine too.

I get being upset at Otaku-kun for not reciprocating her feelings for her / not confessing his feelings before falling in love with another girl, but a Scumbag!?! As far as I have read, he wasn't malicious to her and even look up to her at some points.
