I think that the thread rather than being a passive matchmaking deal has simply come to be viewed that way by people. I think it manifests when one partner realises that they deeply and truly love the other. Hence the inconsistent timing? I mean Senpai's case certainly has the hallmarks of that for sure.

The red string was a forgotten trope specially aftee the lie of Hibike ending.
Now, senpai was before in love on mc but didn't advance probably because thought red string is not for same sex
Not really, considering the actual full extent of the "the red string of fate" was to literally mention it as a metaphor and use it for visual nicety.

One would have to read through every romance work made in Japan and focus on the word play if one wanted to actually say it's been forgotten, even if we limit the scope to fictional animated entertainment media made after .

Using a literal string,be it one that is physical or just etheral, that the characters actually deal with, though,is a rare one for sure.

Does "unbinded" instead of "unbound" not bother anybody else? Maybe it's just me being old, I know English is losing irregular verbs at a steady pace, but that one grates.

I was thinking that too, I don't think she knows how the red threads actually work, or the majority of people at least don't know. Its interesting
Senpai was definitely in love before the thread appeared and seemingly didn't know, so I think it happens when one of the parties realizes that they love the other, or when both are interested in romance. I think that it also probably has the condition that they have to be perfect for eachother to otherwise I think it would have appeared for the MC's parents as well.

I'm with Tsumugi on this one. I believe that, as humans, we are masters of our own destiny. Giving up on love because "it's not meant to be" is just sad.
