Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

I hope this is a fucking joke!
this is not helping AT ALL.

the core problem is something else:

Despite people like bestboy continously denying the MD is going Crunchy accusations, they are true.

Mangadex is a registered business. Mangadex is a company. The owners are known and easily available for authorities.
They have to comply with laws (regarding copyright stuff)
They are dependent on services from paypal stripe visa and mastercard. Therefore they have to do as they say. not even fakku was save and hatd to remove over 7000 of its galleries because creditcard companies didn like the content.

MD owners try to run a pirate site as a legal business. this wont work. They don't consider themselfes to be pirates.

pirates are free from restrictions and such bullshit. you are slaves now.

theres no way back. its too late. this website is doomed and i am incredibly devastated. i miss the good times from 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

i regret having lived long enough to witness this.
i mean, they paint a target on themselves,s then go don't shoot me. Since the ower is chinese, here a proverb for this case:
"做了还要立贞节牌坊"

Rule 1: Please keep discussions on-topic and respectful. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
Stop the misinformation. Titles being removed depict sexual activity between characters that are minors, either in appearance (handled on a case-by-case basis) or confirmed in the dialogue. It's about law and compliance with it. If you jerk it off to little kids, go and do it elsewhere; there are sites that specialise in that.
I'm sorry but kindly shut your mouth paedophile, this was never about children, we never were talking about children, we were talking about fictional characters making fictional love in a fictional setting in a fictional manga/doujin so kindly take your meds skitzo because fictional characters are not the same as actual real csem victim you creep.

Platforms will choose to follow laws of jurisdictions in which it is beneficial for them to continue being able to operate on. Are you sure you really need me to explain this to you or are you just arguing in bad faith? Have you ever wondered why youtube or twitter will follow common western laws but don't ban LGBT content? Come on man...
Pretty sure it was pointed out already, but it just feels like you guys are doing the Visa/Mastercard thing of catering to this very American notion of "common western law" in advance so you won't get targeted (which is ironic because this is a piracy site), rather than any actual specific legal concerns...

to you, has MangaDex lived long enough to become a villain?
i know i am being naive and stupid.
i overidealized this project and the people behind it.

the original MD Staff ( i dont know who of them is still on board) were heroes to me.
Legends. i admired them.
Again, i know i am an idiot for being emotionally so attached to something fragile like this.
but thats how i am. thats who i am. i just cant help myself.

the short answer to your question is: yes.

this is a question i avoided to deal with for a while now: would it have been better the webiste just died properly earlier on ?
right now it feels like this whole thing is someone on life support who is kept alive at any cost.

it all boils down to this or the often used phrase "Die ( proud and upright) on your feet or live on your knees.

you get arrested for a Facebook post where you say you don't want your town under Sharia law
Sharia is a vast web of different interpretations of the Muslim sacred text, similar to the what the Talmud is to the Torah or what Canon Law is to the Bible. There is no one "sharia law" for a town to even be under in the first place.

Wrong, this doesn't applies to fictional characters or anime/manga and is just reestablishing already existing laws because dumb fuck anime/manga IS protected under the First Amendment under the US.
Actually one of the major criticisms of the law is that it's language is EXTREMELY open ended, leaving it vulnerable to being exploited to charge people for content it shouldn't actually cover like anime/manga. The charge might not stand up in court, but that assumes the person they charge is actually financially able to fight the case.

For a bunch of the folks who keep insisting there are no laws against it, here's the Wikipedia overview on the legality of fictional pornographic works portraying minors:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_fictional_pornography_depicting_minors
Are you retarded? fictional characters ARE protected under the First Amendment and your shitty wiki article has NOTHING to do with the topic we are talking about because in the real world we DON'T treat fictional anime/manga characters the same as REAL csem victim you dunce.

Blatantly lying right to our faces. There is zero legal reason for you to remove any content. Absolutely none.

If it's the UK government that's causing problems, move out of the UK.

This content is legal in most countries, so move your servers to those countries.

America has very strong freedom of speech, so move your servers to America.

You are choosing to censor of your own free will, and then lying and shifting the blame.
Im not sure if moving servers to America would be a very good idea, it's still a grey area here as far as I'm aware.

I've heard that this has been challenged a few times, but I haven't been able to find too much information about how well it's enforced. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, because I'm not very savvy with this sort of thing.

Ignoring the fact that loli has been on MD for far longer than you've been around, uploaded by site owners themselves, where exactly is the line supposed to be now?

I mean To Love-Ru has the infamous reflections from Yabuki involving Mikan's privates. Are you going to be removing one of the most iconic shounen jump harem manga too?

This second part is also an issue, it seems you're quite judgemental and antagonistic to something that has been posted or translated by former or current MD owners or admins. I find it odd that instead of trying to be apologetic about something that is supposedly outside of your control you start antagonizing users over their complaints about the removal of titles that would've normally been allowed without a public facing change in policy.
Yeah and loli and lolicon has been the core of why anime/manga has gotten popular and anyone who doesn't respect the fandom should be thrown out in the trash like the tourist they are.

Any additions or uploads to the service that are not compliant will be removed as we become aware of them.

As for the comment by the blue guy, read the Content Policy. It's there, has been for a while now.

piracy is illegal too, pedo, when will you remove all the pirated works on the website.

Probably when Kentaro Miura's musty corpse climbs out of the grave and files the legal documents. Or maybe the publisher will do it 🤷‍♂️
Learn to read, this isn't about DMCA, but the fact that Berserk blatantly violates the websites rules much like all the other Titles that got removed recently. So what would legal documents even matter in this scenario?

Also, it's not cool to talk about Miura like that, you asshole.

I remembered an alternative option to handle something like that.
Make an alt site called either Mangasex, Mangadex After Dark or something else to host the NSFW content while being connected to the main site. It's only accessible with a Mangadex Account with a certain amount of use and activity and hidden from search engines with a 403 forbidden, there is also no direct link from the main site or on the forum.
All non-advertiser friendly stuff goes there, and the main site stays clean and pristine like the devs seemingly want.

It's a proven solution that sadpanda took and people are fine with that
MANGASEX 😭😭😭
This happened because NC failed (and is always destined to fail) in reaching big audience numbers. That has always been MD's game -- MD has better reading view, better user experience overall, and a more established ORGANIC base. NC had endlessly-promoted teenage-self-healing-projects and curiously underpromoted actual gems and a clunkier UX. They ended up burning cash for easily-gamed monthly contests for stuff that were uploaded to their site solely for the sake of winning those contests. No retention because retention is organic and their definition of organic is fluffy-yet-passive-aggressive "community" on Discord and whatever the hell their Social tab was. So they decided to monetize MD too. Hence the "illegal" content hunt. That was exactly what one of NC's founders told me -- spicy cover arts might make their apps flagged or whatever. Toni, what's up, big dog?
To the friends-and-holding-in-UK: NC wouldn't have failed if you guys had promoted the better titles in there instead of doing whatever the fuck it was you guys did, but I've outgrown talking to walls, so who cares. It's been three years, I'm just glad there has come an actual proper time to finally vent.
