If small criticisms such as "reading awkwardly" and even larger ones as "missing whole pages" count as hate messages then there'd be no standards at all. Getting a native speaking proofreader or more shouldn't be too much to ask from any scanlation team, but apparently it is.

Hey guys, Ghxst here. I want to clear something up.

I didn’t step away because of criticism, not even close. Feedback like “this reads awkwardly” or pointing out missing pages is completely valid, and I actually agree with it. Standards matter, and readers deserve quality. I’ve never had an issue with that, and I still don’t.

What I do think gets overlooked sometimes is how much work goes into a single chapter, especially in smaller scanlation teams. It’s not just “translate and upload.” It’s:

• cleaning/redrawing
• translating (often from rough raws)
• proofreading
• typesetting (which alone can take hours if you care about quality)

And a lot of the time, it’s the same few people juggling all of that in their free time.

So yeah, having a native proofreader would be ideal. No argument there.
But it’s not always as simple as “just get one,” especially when teams are small, unpaid, and already stretched thin.

Criticism is fair. I respect it, and I even agree with most of it.
All I’m asking is for a bit of perspective on the process behind the scenes.

At the end of the day, everyone involved is trying to do better just within the limits they have.
