i'm interested in it, and i've bookmarked, but man this feels rushed. like if there was a bit of setup of him fighting in the streets, i could understand his immediate grasp on fighting and the magic in his body. but he just pulls that shit out of nowhere, and then is able to use it immediately after finding out it exists. i could understandably believe the plot thus far if it had been given more time to breathe, but it just feels like everything worked out immediately for will.

It's not just you, that's more or less what is going on.
That's the kind of writing you expect from fanfics: The author doesn't have much of a clue about how to write a story so he goes from cool thing he saw on his favourite movie to cool thing he saw in his favourite comic, building flimsy bridges between these plot moments without understanding why those things were cool to begin with.

No, you're spot on. I'm willing to give the story something of a chance, see if the author is rushing through things to get to the 'good part', but I'm not convinced we'll get there. Still, I'll give it a chance for the art
