I don't think Eizo really puts one of them above the other as customers. They were all his first personal customers, pretty much when he was still starting out, and you might even say they became his friends. He made more stuff for the merchant to resell, which would be the second tier for him. Perhaps at some point, if not already, subsequent personal customers wouldn't anymore hit quite the same, since he's becoming more famous already and is dealing with more and more people, even if he's not specifically making weapons for them. Like now he's the army unit's blacksmith and apparently also a fighter. I doubt he really cares exceedingly much about all of these people personally, aside from a few.

As far as I can tell, this is a manga exclusive plot line. Granted, I did stop reading the light novels at about this point in the story (after spending a whole bunch of money buying all the volumes on bookwalker. Ugh...) I can't remember for sure though.

Also, just as a side note, at least he actually does some sort of smithing in the manga. In the LN, his "smithing" is just "cut sword shape out of sheet metal and sharpen it."

Damn…I really miss this one. It’s moving at an absolute snail’s pace but I’m guessing it’s resting on its laurels given how popular it was when it first released. I’m glad the mangaka won’t be overworked but I feel as though hype dies for these mangas with super long periods between releases.

Wow, did not expect that effect from thr sword. It makes sense now why she was just holding it, then not holding it then holding it again. That's sad man. Also why do the monsters get so strong that an elf's life can be overdrawn for the subjugation? Y'all can't go in there periodically and prevent the buildup from forming fully?

The elves actually patrol regularly to check for places with too much magical energy buildup, but they can't cover every ground with their limited number. Humans just being humans, too busy with politics and warfare until the shit becomes too big to ignore.
