If you look back at those first few pages there are a lot of suspicious details.
Main thing is the "sacred rope." We can see that it's blocking the entrance to the temple (unusual) and she later mentions that it stretches around the temple grounds.
1. When we first see her she's standing behind the sacred rope (aka inside the temple grounds) as if waiting for something.
2. However, her dialogue when the priest shows up, "Well well, if it isn't the priest from the neighboring town," comes off like she wasn't particularly expecting him to show up.
3. When the priest hands her the book you can see that he extends his arm over the sacred rope.
4. She doesn't really react to him looking like he's hella dying/him saying a bunch of people at his temple died. Instead she tries to make a deal with him. "In exchange [for handling this book] this sacred rope"
5. Similarly it doesn't seem like she did anything about him dying. She just went inside with the book.
Overall she never steps outside the enclosure made by the sacred ropes and she seemed more interested in the rope than the whole curse thing.
