I know we liked to joke about how ironically the predator was treating Naoto better than his own mother but these last couple of chapters pretty much showed me that mother is actually better.

Despite being tortured by her she still wanted to tell the cops that it was her who had done it. Unfortunately, her trauma from the torture won can't blame her but it did show that she wasn't always like this.

Naoto is officially fucked. Literally a predators wet dream. Now no other adult is taking care of him besides her. She's won.

In these types of manga I usually have a hard time internalizing just how messed up these individuals are because how fucking hot they are(and they usually don't take it this far) but the torturing of the mother did for me. This chick is terrifying. My brain accepted the stalking, knocking out the teacher, hush money for the mother, drones that fucked that one kid's family garden, but this...was a too much man.

Seeing her finally acting like a good mother only for this to happen.

I'll be honest, it honestly feels more like the author realized that the pedophile was honestly the better option, got scared and quickly backpedelled. Up to the very last appearance, his Mother was awful and planning on using him to steal her money only to now behave like a good mother to him, and the pedo was smarter before, going through all that and leaving her after torture is extremely stupid and dangerous, there is nothing stopping her from telling the cops everything she did and about her relationship to her son, the threat doesn't work here. Author just got scared or the editorial came down on them.

The irony here is how money truly changes people, lol. Before this, the mother could barely scrape by just to keep her gambling cycle going. But now, after being 'sponsored' by the onee-san and freed from the mindset that money is everything, she’s actually starting to care about other things like her own son.

However, the onee-san’s main goal in 'subsidizing' the mother was actually to keep her in act, trying to fuel her terrible gambling addiction in the hopes that she would remain a bad mother. But it backfired completely when the mother seemingly became a better person and won back Nao-kun’s affection even more (since in most stories, no matter how awful parents are, their kids always end up loving them anyway). This ultimately drove the onee-san to use the most extreme measure to discipline her.

So yeah, looks like this chapter is the conclusion of this arc. It would be a bit nicer if we got a little side story about Shouta saving up money to visit Harumi.

Impressive that despite tying up the ending they still left open spots to continue to overall plot, with both the teachers starting to get suspicious and Shouta still somewhat hung up over Harumi. Though honestly the reality that if Naoto's mother had a normal job instead of gambling she would've been a pretty good parent, if a little crass, is a pretty crazy turnaround compared to the doujin but i do like how every aspect of the story has been expanded upon.

Speaking of doujins we're moving right onto vol. 2, eh? I'm a little excited to see how this one'll turn out considering the original work was already pretty fleshed out and how the ending will be expanded going forward.

So the Theories of this manga being a remake of Deadly Onee-San are truth, plus it seems this chapter gave us the endings of the first volume Cliffhanger. really curious about the retelling of Vol 2 now tbh.
