honestly, since there are still so much unknown, all we can do is do these jokes, like coping mechanism

Riko and her mother's reunion not being a reunion and sacrifice thing is not the way it will go in my opinion.
I have 2 other things in my mind:
1 - Riko being sovereign of children will play a big role, at least I hope so.
2 - They did not delve into details about Hail Hex being Delver hunters, It is as if they did not listened delver senpai said all those things. "what did you thing all these whistles were?" is a good point. This chapter has half of it about that creature. Yes we know, the first big warning from big mentors were about curses of layers, and the second one was about white whistles. but I was actually waiting more details in this chapters.

•a plate (made/intended for Riko)
•the state of the body (even with incredible vitality)
•her decision
•IT'S THICKER THAN MY ARM!! (sorry, that's been on my mind after the read lol)

anyways, afaik in this manga limbs can be replaced or "traded" in some circumstances, but none as direct as to be worth cutting them for recovery. I still wouldn't rule out the possibility if they went the route of "halving" her so that she is easier to carry (which might be in line with the author expressing their several fetishes, Acrotomophilia would just be one more added to the list). The fact that Reg noticed her wounds aren't really closed might mean they gave her something for the swelling and just decided to roll with it, carrying her around all patched up but still nowhere near a state where she can move by herself. Since it was intended for Riko, perhaps it was some sort of "last resource" if she got heavily wounded, given Riko is the most vulnerable in the whole party. From all of that the one "sure" thing is that Nanachi is all but healed, and very likely running on her last legs (no pun intended) to try and push even a step further (seriously, no pun intended) in their journey.

It would be a funny callback if somehow Nanachi had a whole plate of the water mushrooms used to treat Riko's arm growing in a plate meant for culture of those and that's the "miracle" that let her skip absolute rest after the 30 hour mark. The only way to know for sure would be if future chapters outright revealed or gave further hints as to what exactly happened.

Another possible fetish/kink that he could be expressing is age regression, making Nanachi younger so she’s lighter? She does look kinda smaller after being shown in the backpack.

The only way to know for sure would be if future chapters outright revealed or gave further hints as to what exactly happened.

I was thinking on some sort of parasite like how leeches are used in medicine but those mushrooms work but the mushroom wouldn't explain the wiggling. In theory she could have kept them on some animal she kept in a cage but we never got any indication that they were carrying an animal.

Just some speculation, I put it in spoilers as some might be offended by its nature.. If the crater is the vulva, the abyss is the vagina, the bottom of the abyss is the uterus, the egg-like thing they're heading to is the ovum, the 2000 thousand years thing is periods, and our cute little explorers are the sperm cells, then the author has created some hell of an allegory..

So the idea that only something not alive can make it to the bottom further cements the parrarells Made in Abyss has with Roadside Picnic. In Roadside Picnic the only way to make it to the center of the zone and reach the Golden Sun was to make it through an anomaly called the meat grinder, which well, doesn't let much through alive. Wonder if someone will have to sacrifice themselves to the ring of light to temporarily turn it off. Calling it now that Nanachi would be the one to make said sacrifice.
