I think there's a pretty big difference between saying "not all succubi are bad" and "my friend who tried to rape you isn't a bad girl" though. Like if I caught one of my friends trying to rape someone I'm in love with (or not it doesn't really make a difference), I would beat the shit out of them, turn them in to the police, and never speak to them again. I certainly wouldn't go "oh they're totally the type to do this actually but they're not a bad person". But I guess this is a classic example of the rapist being a hot woman so it's not really considered rape by anyone involved for some reason.
Number one reason why it's not considered rape is that it's sexual assault.

I also think people can separate "she did something evil" and "she's evil". Both are separate moral judgements.

It's strongly implied that "i need you to take her into custody" implies "because she violated the rules against trying to force unwilling men into sex".
And police forces don't typically demand the whole story or determine whether a crime actually occurred over the phone before acting.

That's usually after the accused is taken into custody.

Now the manga will hurt itself by bringing Rinka back without any backlash imo. It seems set up for her to return and idk man. They did well with how FL reacted and wanted to reassure but still, the world and their actions thus far would mean a actual consequence.

Almost like all mediums that take themselves seriously like this one will also be taken and discussed seriously in the forums. Crazy, right?
I mean...does it take itself seriously? I feel like we're still in the early stages of this narrative so its really hard to pin down what its going for tone wise. Feels moreso that people formed expectations for it since it wasnt a super horny ecchi Manga right out of the gate. But even if you look at the narrative both of the characters are horny teens trying to hide how much they wanna do lewd things. I was at least primed for it to go down this path.

"But they established that succubi using their powers on men was taboo"
That is moreso world building. If the premise is a love comedy between an Otaku student and an Otaku succubus then establishing that Succubi are a known and common entity in the world makes that premise easier to swallow. And it stands to reason if you establish this is the norm then you have to create some system of rules for society to run. If you create a story about a society integrated with vampires you would have to establish that it is frowned upon for them to suck people's blood or create thralls or else it would get chaotic fast. That does not mean there will not he vampires sucking blood or creating thralls, sometimes without consequence, in the story.

Which like...its fine if this offends you. People on average are more sensitive about this sorta thing in fiction. I was just noting how modern this level of outrage about this feels, as a long time Manga reader.

That's an interesting thing to consider, what kind of power is this association over things like crimes commited by succubus in contrast to what human society would determine and what kind of tensions are managed between this and police for example. In cases like this they act alongside human authorities or they keep things to themselves? Has keeping things to themselves made some sort of tension with victims of succubus who might demand open justice and in order to avoid problems or maybe being influenced by them human authorities look sideways?

What she DID is sexual assault. What she was ATTEMPTING to do is rape. Unless you're trying to argue that men can't be raped by women, only "sexually assaulted"?

You can separate doing something evil versus being evil for some characters. Zuko from Avatar did evil things but isn't evil. Attempting to rape someone while in full possession of your mental faculties because you're jealous of your friend puts her fairly squarely into the "she's evil" category though.

I mean…i guess im glad she didn’t misunderstand the situation? Still think Rinka’s gonna get off too easy for it, though. I really did not like Emu still defending her (Emu explicitly said she’s really a “good girl”) after an attempted rape…
Considering what we're seeing in other parts of the world, I feel like it's topical to point out "it's just a part of the culture".

Truly a manga from a new era. No more bullshit misunderstandings. People actually have a brain and try to talk to each other, utilizing the language that has been developed for thousands of years unique to intelligent species.

It's not considered rape because rape didn't occur. By all metrics she wasn't even in the process of trying to initiate penetrative sex.

Minority Report is anticipation sci-fi, not a prescription, mate. You can't consider something that didn't happen to have happened.

Are you illiterate? Did you read what I said? Do you understand the definition of "attempted"? Attempted murder is a crime. Attempted rape is a crime. Just because she was unsuccessful doesn't mean nothing happened. If you try and kill someone and fail, you don't get to walk away because "nothing happened".

And legally, the main factor in attempted crimes is intent. She absolutely was attempting to rape him, she just didn't get to that point because she was stopped. Intent is hard to prove in a court of law for obvious reasons, so it'd be pretty much impossible to get legal consequences (and she won't get any consequences at all) but we as omniscient readers know that the intent was there. And it should be pretty obvious for the characters involved as well. What she did IS attempted rape, it just wouldn't hold up in court.

The only reason why you know she had this intention was because it's a manga and you can read her thoughts.

Except the person you're judging for not blacklisting her doesn't have access to her thoughts. Get a grip.

"Like if I caught one of my friends trying to rape someone I'm in love with" is what you said. Except she doesn't have access to the thoughts you are basing your judgement upon. From her perspective she might as well have had no intention to go further.

Ah yes the succubus who was using her powers to force him onto a bed, licking him, and was literally in the process of taking off her clothes when Katou arrived. Surely there was no way Katou had any idea about her intentions. Surely Katou saw that and thought "oh she's just playing around with him a bit while he's on the bed and has NO intention to go any further" especially when succubus powers seem to be based on actual intercourse.

Putting aside the fact that sexual assault is still extremely bad and that defending someone who commits sexual assault isn't all that different from defending a rapist, you'd have to assume Katou is legitimately stupid to not understand Rinka's intentions.

Now you're moving the goalpost. Bless your soul.

It does seem like their culture but we don't know for now what kind of any punishment she will get

"I know she tried to rape you, but she's not a bad girl." What?
Keep in mind that she still thinks Rinka is her friend, and she's known her since childhood.

This happens in real life too, people turn out to not be who you thought they were...
