I wouldn't necessarily say it was wrong per se. I think at the the times she checked those scenarios were very much true.

The ball said Urani was his "fated partner" there's no denying that, but she kept telling him that he'd meet his fated partner doing xyz. Each time he followed that advice, he would encounter Shirahosi and was getting closer to her instead of Urani. So, while he did have feelings for Urani, he also had feelings developing for the other girl until eventually became clear who he wanted to pursue.

He was getting closer with someone else, who (by Shirahoshi's own admission) was also attempting to make it clear they also had feelings for him. Meanwhile, to him it must, have seemed as though there was no chance with Urani.

That's when the ball displayed someone else.

I did a re-read to make sure this chapter isn't just gaslighting us.

Chapter 14 -> Shirahoshi says she's waiting for Otaku to confess
Chapter 18 -> Otaku says he's going to confess to Shirahoshi
Chapter 19 -> The crystal ball shows Otaku's soulmate is Shirahoshi
Chapter 24 -> Otaku appaers to confess in a flashback

How are they going to explain this? Was he actually turning Shirahoshi down in chapter 24? Was he only going home as a friend with her in chapter 29 (maybe to protect her from the stalker)?

I guess it's not entirely farfetched to say everything up to this point was just a misunderstanding. Except for the Crystal Ball's prediction in chapter 19. Not sure how they're going to explain that.
