Seems like the Lion, while paranoid and conspiratorial, has a good head on his shoulders. He's basically right on all aspects... except Humanity's motivations... well, assuming we've actually been told correctly what humanity's motivations were, and that the MC is a reliable narrator (though he isn't really the narrator, you know what I mean).

Probably the very thing he was worried about. And the mythology thing probably kicked it along. These people have barely any experience with war and the horrors of it because it's a "myth" but a kind a human probably is horribly familiar with.
You would think their naivety towards war would be a more comforting thing than it appears it's been. :thonk:

Yeah this chapter made him a lot more sympathetic and interesting. Wanting to kill Hitoshi is still going too far but he seems to be one of the few who understand just how destabilizing this situation could get. Like we’re shown a very nice, peaceful world at the outset and now there are murmurings of international conflict.

There’s also an interesting meta angle here where we, the readers, are extremely skeptical that this peaceful world of inter-species harmony could possibly be real. In a sense this is confirming the minister’s worries: we literally can’t imagine a world without conflict!

Okay, sooo... That was a Gestapo at the end of this chapter...
Did they just form them or have they always been around?

Also, if they've already existed then who were the "Undesireables" they rounded up?
Maybe this is the reason there's only mammal Kemo in the setting.

So the closest analogues to humans this world had, got the Neanderthal (and every other Homo species other than Homo Sapiens) treatment. Killed off because the Kemo Sapiens learned large-scale communication and coordination first.

Also hey, I called it when I guessed that the Kemo aversion to war is due to an ancient hyperwar that passed into myth!

I knew it, there had to have been a bloodier history. I had a feelings humans perhaps once existed, now we see that they were wiped out by the kemos. It might have happened similarly in our own planet, if animals evolved in such a way, humans may not have become the dominant species. While we do have the advantages of our bodies that allowed a lot of dexterity and what not, I think the sheer physical power difference would destroy humans in those early years. Intelligence was one of the key differences between humans and animals, but if animals were to obtain a similar level of intelligence at the same time or earlier, then it's kind of GG for humans.
