Going by what he said earlier about how aether is space, it could very well be an infinite life stream up there. He's been called the Shepherd of the Stars, and he works for Inky which seems to be a god of the stars, life (I think, but not 100% sure), and time.

So, yeah. Dead people stars checks out.
