In real history, while Boraqchin would stay by Ogedei's side as the Yeke Qadun until possibly 1240, the closest woman to Ogedei at this time was Sorgaghtani Beki, not her. In fact, it wasn't until 1236 that Ogedei started stripping her of Tolui's military inheritance (the Mongol clans inherited by Tolui from Genghis Khan), and that was after years of futilely trying to get her to marry either himself or Guyuk. By that time, however, it was too late as Sorgaghtani had gained control of the Chinese province of Hebei (as Tolui's inheritance) and its millions of inhabitants, forming the future core of her son's Yuan Dynasty. It seems like this manga is diverging from history at this point.

Sorgaghtani also had the strange but possibly tragic foresight to have her children each educated under a separate foreign culture. Mongke was sent to study under Batu and learned Northern European culture, Hulegu was educated under Persian tutors, Kubilai was sent to Hebei to learn from the Chinese (resulting in his deep sinophilia), while Ariqboke was educated in the ways of the Chagataid Turks. It was possibly this choice combined with Mongke's death that culminated in the brothers' war. If you look at that lineup, Mongke and Ariqboke were educated in the ways of the steppe peoples (which Northern Europeans, especially Hungarians and Russians, still resembled), while Hulegu and Kubilai were educated in the ways of ancient sedentary empires.

When Mongke died, two of the remaining three brothers favored the sedentary lifestyle and allied to fight for it, mobilizing their conquered peoples to fight their war, while the lone defender of the old nomadic ways found out quickly that he couldn't possibly match the resources of two ancient empires mobilized by the heirs of Genghis Khan.

Granted, Sorghaghtani still hasn't lost Tolui's military inheritance yet. Currently she's only giving up books. It's not exactly contradictory to historical fact.
