Spoiler: The First Case really is about fatherhood first and foremost, spoilers for Okatani's love life ahead...

Okatani makes some potential love interests, really beautiful single ladies, one who's divorced too; but romance is never pursued, Okatani goes through a lot to win his precious daughter in this divorce battle, which he does win in the end of the First Case, his ex-wife is blindsided by the twist of who her lover was all along, she loses the case when he turns coat and helps Okatatani instead.
