Not really? This novel chapter felt like the parallel to Aya's last - Hikari's in love with Yuu and theoretically wants to be w/ him but is also absolutely done w/ him b/c of the wishy washy ness. I think the manga better conveyed how much it hurt her to be told he was willing to throw her away.

The novel better conveys that both Yuu and Hikari understand this to be a very fake smile.

ETA: Also, in the novel, this smile is about her trying to comfort him b/c he's been apologizing to her for not saving Aya.

ETA2: Yom hides Hikari's eyes while (fake) smiling b/c that's a thing Yom consistently does when the novel is being ambiguous about feelings.

Hikari proving again she's the best character in this story. Yuu's resolve to throw everything away to bring back Ayami was half hearted and too selfish. Ayami saw thru that. Comes back crying to his light, Hikari just like in their younger days. He knows Hikari is the only one who can do it. Even if it means breaking Hikari's heart seeing Yuu, the boy she loves, cry over Ayami. She loves them both and is sacrificing her own light, her happiness to help them. She's too good for them and they know it. But she'll do it anyway because she's their friend
