Been a while since we had a showdown that went straight to the showdown portion. Last time that happened was the Bonito Tataki Showdown, which feels unfair since that one was a single chapter showdown.

It was thanks to seeing this episode in Ala Carte that I learned that Japanese raw salmon menus (such as sushi and sashimi) used Norwegian salmon, and that this manga chapter predates those salmon imports becoming widespread and the practice of eating raw salmon becomes commonplace in Japan. I was so confused at first when Kaibara had a fit about the raw salmon and all that blah about doctors and scientists being involved, because I've been seeing salmon sashimi in Japanese stores in Japan.

My guess (not having read the other scans or the spoilered comment) is that the salmon Yamaoka caught were actually illegal to fish, maybe because they were in the process of spawning? He'll realize that it was the exact sort of thing that Kurita would be aware of, and that excluding her led to his downfall.

Good guess, looking forward to see you back for the next chapter for the answer.

In MY opinion, I do think the flowers are superfluous. Like they might cover the scent a bit but like...almost no edible flowers taste all that good. Theyre almost placebo in flavor. So as a whole, and as someone who enjoys gravlax and raw/cured salmon....he couldve done alot more with the concept in my opinion. Different types of onions, something other thsn lemon juice etc etc

The capers is the lovelier touch than anything.
