I wouldn't bet on that. since they defect to another empire we most likely get a war arc, and then MC will invent some form of weapon to help win the war, causing her conscience to torture her for a while.

No, they got demoted; he's a Mage and I think she's either a Healer or Priest. They're only Sage and Saintess by title now, and it's a former title, they can leverage that with a hostile nation to defect with benefits.

They insist they’re the real one despite having their jobs demoted. Something about egos and denial. Which is why we had the duels in the first place. A bit like a former champ insisting he’s no1 despite being washed and never winning anything recently.

Yeah, that's a little bit what I'm confused about. Assuming classes mean what I think they mean, being stripped of a class means they lose a bunch of class features, ie, divine connection, holy magic, etc.

But the sage mentioned healing magic to the saintess, who shouldn't have access to that now, so it makes me wonder if it's less class and more titles.

Last chapter Dahlia said she can still use magic from before the change, it just seems to have decreased in effectiveness due to change in affinity. So I think they lost job granted abilities, but developed skills remain. Healing magic probably isn't exclusive to the saintess, it's probably just something she developed because she had a high affinity for it.

NGL, feels like the author has reached their peak and now grasping at straws to stay afloat. Thought the whole duel was farce to begin with, and now that the two antagonists have escaped to "Military Country", the whole scenario feels even more BS.

I know the whole SoL genre is hard to maintain a compelling story for, but this is manufactured AI slop levels of plot development.

I wish the author had a better way to introduce a side characters' antagonists. The Duel had no in-story reason to be performed since the demotion was a literal act of god. Defecting to another country would be easier by not putting the entire country on high-alert.
