That's just BB's version. The actual Moon Cancer is... more of a collective subsconscious personification by the world of Mankind's desire to remain at the top of the food chain? It's also responsible for why we repeatedly fail at space travel, and 'can't figure out why'; it basically grabs us by the head every time we try to escape Earth's gravity and forcibly drags us back down. "No. You will stay. No one will stand higher than us."
E: Though it is entirely possible that that's something else and I've conflated the two; I was playing at like 5 in the morning and just kind of wanted to be done with the OC by that point, because I was highly annoyed that this was going to be yet another "we're not gonna remember the events of it" OC. "Karma remains even if we don't remember what happens" is a BS excuse because if Karma counted we would be allowed to disco dance right through that damn wall of light, Avenger friends still in tow.
