I confess I'd need to reread this to refresh my memories. I thought they had encountered some villains before this cult, but if they haven't,

they (mostly sunny) beat up a few minor villains only once: rapists - the sleazebags of a larger group. but no moral dilemma of kill/or be killed.

he's less of a character and more of a plot device, despite supposedly being the main character!

he clearly has a defined character - which is pretty realistic for a shut-in gooner,
not the more badass horror action character you're probably used to since this is a comedy harem too

What am I supposed to expect when the main girl could get a nod of approval from Chuck Norris? I might have this bias that I don't like extreme contrast where some characters can do everything but others can't even wipe their own nose.

Yuu did much more than that, so he really doesn't deserve to be mocked this much

2. he did save people sometimes without Sunny's help: like he just saved the cult girl two chapters ago

where some characters can do everything

It's obvious Sunny can't do everything, since she at her limit (both mentally and physically in chapter 30 too , since she would have died if Yuu didn't shield her), Yuu and Kanae are trying to ease her burden as much as they can.

They know she's the true hero for humanity, so they're being helpful as sidekicks
