Poor Nekiji, its quite clear she grew found of Yamato and likely fell in love with him. Also is it just me, or does it seem like Yamato has some kind of Oedipus complex? Because if I'm remembering correctly, he seems really hostile toward Kona and treats Tokio not like his mom, but like a thing.

Well I imagine the only reason for the rock baby ruse to have been done is that Yamato conceived Watage out of wedlock.

So either Yamato and Tokio were publicly married, and Yamato secretly conceived Watage with someone who wasn’t Tokio.

Or Yamato publicly married someone who wasn’t Tokio, but secretly incestuously conceived Watage with Tokio.

Personally l am learning towards the former scenario being the more likely one as it seems like Yamato and Tokio are publicly recognized as King and Queen.

Anyways it looks like Kona in chapter 82 was pretty much correct in his interpretation of his last drawing being himself closing in on Tokio.

For those confused, while it is unclear who the mother of Watage is - What happened in this chapter is:

1) Tokio reacted horribly to being unstoned by Yamato, she cried for Kona, and basically rejected Yamato (from his view point) by mourning Kona not being there even though Yamato (HER YOUNG SON) who gave up his old life, lost his father, and risked everything to find her IS RIGHT IN FRONT of her. There is even a Panel where she BLAMES Yamato for saving her instead of being happy they reunited.
It's unclear how long Tokio whined and ignored her son to cry about Kona but someone pointed out that Tokio wasn't in the wedding panels (assuming Tokio isn't the wife).

2) It's unclear who the wife is, by looking at the wife's body it's probably NOT Tokio, but Yamato is likely using Tokio to turn his heirs into stone to continue the "lie" of the "stone princesses/goddesses" that the people around them worship to maintain his position as 'God King'.

3) Yamato probably was aware of Nekiji's feelings (this is just speculation on my part though) and something made him reject her indirectly with this wedding which probably hurt him (guilt)... and if it was politically motivated he probably felt like a total scumbag (He is feeding into the world of liars and becoming part of it).

4) Yamato is tired of being surrounded by liars and being a liar himself (he's a false 'God King' to maintain his kingdom), probably still emotionally damaged by the initial rejection of his mother, add the recent loss of Nekiji, and THEN seeing how loved Maru is by Kuroko instantly demanding that no one take the medicine if it could mean Maru would possibly die... Yamato decided in the spur of the moment "Fuck it, I at least want to see if I'm actually the REAL child instead of a fake."

It's easy to miss - Until he got triggered by seeing how "loved" Maru was, Yamato was demanding that Maru take the medicine... His flashback was just showing the reasons why he would make such a rash emotionally charged decision just for the sake of "truth".

I'm not sure where this "then they turn to stone and get kidnapped thing" will go, but with Yamato taking the medicine I guess this is pretty much a forced event if it's so important for us readers to not know who the real one is.
I actually forgot why it matters which one is real.

I feel like Yamato probably did publicly marry Tokio, but Tokio is not the person we see Yamato having sex with/conceiving Watage with.

If Yamato married someone who wasn’t Tokio and had a kid that person he married, like you’re suggesting, I don’t think there would be any reason to create the stone baby ruse in the first place, I am pretty sure the Yama-to City people would readily accept an old-fashioned heir from Yamato. The only reason to do the stone baby ruse would be Yamato had the kid out of wedlock.

Also the “miracle stone” we see just looks like a regular rock not a petrified baby. And as far as we know Tokio can’t petrify other things without first also petrifying herself as well.

Yeah that Tokio isn't shown being able to petrify others without sharing their fate is indeed a hole in the theory, but because Yamato can simply free her, it would be rather a trivial event if she were to petrify a baby then he would release them both.

'Course just lying about everything from the start and swapping the real baby with the stone in a way that is good enough to fool the general public is even easier than that - or so one would assume.

I don't get why the stone baby thing matters anyway, but it's probably just a ritual to cement the public's faith and strengthen his position like a lot of pointless ceremonies that Royalty/Religions would do in the olden days.

I almost feel sorry for Yamato I mean he's trying to convince himself that he's not a clone even though that he already been told that he was couple of chapters ago (in the past)
