I surmised as much, my point is that it's just not reasonable for everyone to go "Somehow they can affect our minds, oh well, back to work!"
It's because regular people or even majority of mercenaries don't come across Crystal Beings that often to question such stuff (and those who accidentally come across them majority of the time don't escape alive).

And those who fight them (aka., military) already know about that peculiar nature of Crystal Beings, but they can't do anything as research and understanding of the full biology of Crystal Beings is yet unknown to the people of this Universe.

Even MC said during this arc on how he knows more about the biology of Crystal Beings (because of the game lore), more than the military (who usually have the most advance knowledge prior to public info release), as Serena didn't even know about the existence of a Mother Crystal or they make home in a system with Pulsar star.

It's not about whether it's "weird" to me. Everyone on site goes "What was that?!" or "How could this happen in the vaacum of space?!", so it's clearly weird to them. Yet it's never followed up on.
I don't think you're actually reading my responses. Messing with singing crystals is said to be illegal, but that's not even remotely what I'm talking about.
While the point relating to Singing Crystal is not directly related to your question, but it is still related to it as well. As both Singing Crystal & Crystal Being seem to work on similar principles.

As for no reaction from people, it's because of lack of knowledge, which they can't do anything about as research is still ongoing.

I mean, even in real life, people know that deep under the ocean there are still thousands of unknown creature which we don't know about, but no one really questions it much, as there is lack of info and research is going on.

This series is basically from the POV of MC, so if he isn't interested in something, that stuff won't be known.

No, you're not understanding. The crystals can be heard through subspace, all the way wherever these nests are. It isn't traveling through conventional space, the vacuum means nothing. A baby crystal cries and you suddenly have a bunch of crystal lifeforms swarming your location.
I don't think either the Web Novel or Light Novel had confirmed that a Singing Crystal is actually a baby crystal.

It's origin and structure is unknown for now.

I mean, we have seen how Small-sized Crystal Beings are formed in the Manga itself (they are born from fragments of Large-sized Crystal Beings & Mother Crystal).

I'm not saying the MC specifically has to investigate this. He was with a whole detachment of the empire's military. You'd think they'd at least question him about it, given it was him that came up with the whole plan of using the crystal.
The empire has no knowledge he is the informant, only Serena and he already told her how to defeat them. From military point of view she has no further bussiness prying into him especially since he is showing such wary attitude around his source of knowledge. It'd would make no sense to ruin relations with a person she aknowledges as an extremely capable mercenary (and why it won't be pried into further will be explained in the next arc).

To be more on point while trying to stay within the plot covered only in the Manga (because the psionic stuff isn't covered properly in Manga yet, just indirectly hinted)

The point is that, Hiro was secretive and in open denial about his usage of Singing Crystal against the Federation army (back in first arc).

And while top military officers knew about what Hiro might have done back then (aka., use an illegal item against someone as weapon).
They remained quite and didn't question Hiro, because Serena tried to suppress the whole issue, and questioning Hiro about it could lead to the situation going public which could evolve into a international(?) controversy as it would suggest that Empire is using illegal item as weapon (even if the said item was used by an independent mercenary), which could help the Federation gain political ammo against the Empire (just to inform, there aren't just 2-3 ruling governments in this universe, but actually dozens of them, each controlling dozens or hundreds of star systems).

Even during this arc, Serena worked hard to keep the origin of the info regarding the Mother Crystal a secret from higher officials, so that it doesn't affect Hiro.

I know there have been some adaptations that only covered the 1st 1-2 books, like the ones for Inept Villainess and Archdemon's Dilemma. Or would that pacing be too slow for this title?
Yes the slowest they could go is probably season 1 ending with them heading to a vacation planet.
But I feel that would be overly optimistic and I like to have moderate expectations so if the final result is subpar it doesn't hit as hard.
I don't think adapting just 2 volumes might be more than 10 to 12 episodes even if they adapt literally everything, but hey maybe I'm wrong. It looks like a good arc to start the 2nd cour in the next summer season too.
However as I said before I feel it will be too overly optimistic.

And I don't think they would go up to 3rd volume and put a pause between 3rd and 4th season by placing it in the next season Since 3rd vol is vacation planet I and 4th is meeting Chris' grandfather and her heading home.
That's a cliffhanger harsh for me to consider...

Well, we'll know the pacing they're going with after the first two three episodes.

Edit: BTW for people interested in sneak-peaks I found some footage being used as background in this music video.
While the footage is out of order, I may have to renounce my opinion they could go as far as volume 6.
4 is probably max they will go if they even include the mercenary old man and collecting garb I mean loot recovery this detailed.
But seeing as Mei does not appear even a single time and there's no VA announcement for her role, 2 might be the most they're going to cover.

I believe the reason why it's brushed off is because there is precedence for it in the first place.

You yourself are missing the point that @CountryMage is trying to make, though it would help if they had framed it better.

That point is that this is a known phenomena in the setting of the story. In fact, it is so well known that they have a law about it. That being that it is illegal to screw around with singing crystals because doing so tends to immediately invite other crystal lifeforms to the party to wreak bloody havoc on whoever happens to be there.

Thus, this means the psionic screams are known. The only real difference seems to be the source of the scream. Which, since it is already a known thing, is only being chalked up as, "Huh, so I guess it can happen that way, too." At which point it is simply noted and logged, and then everyone carries on with their day.

They don't even need to question Hiro about it. They saw what happened, and they saw the results of that happening.

Also, looking at it from the Doylist perspective, I can see this as something the author is setting up for a revelation that will come later on, and they want to be a little sneaky about it. Something that might feel like an ass-pull the second it comes out, up until Hiro or someone else goes, "OH! THAT THING THAT HAPPENED BEFORE!"
Wait, this logic is bunk. Yes, it has to be known that messing with the crystals carries the risk of bringing a heap of enemy lifeforms to your location, but who's to say such an event is always accompanied by a "scream"? These occasions might have been the exception and the fleet's reaction even supports that.

But where has this been established? I certainly can't find it in the manga. If you are talking about future events then my point still stands: why aren't they questioning it now?

Gold Star was mentioned in Chapter 35.2, page 13. For those who forgot like me, I reread previous chapters and apparently it's the highest honor a soldier can have, and those who have it are treated on the same level as a viscount.

I'm sorry, but this explanation makes no sense. On one hand you are claiming people comme across those crystals (and presumably activate them) far too often to even care, on the other you say they lack the knowledge about what happens then (the "scream"). Which is it? Is the phenomenon well known and the MC "just happened" to be part of a large fleet commposed of those ignorant about it? He himself might know (unclear, since he hasn't said a word about it), but his crew certainly doesn't - a veteran mmercenary among them.

Come on... asking him "what the hell was that noise in my head?!" isn't going to ruin anything, especially since she does not have to persist if he insists on not anwsering (though at this point there's zero reason to). This is not about exposition, but worldbuilding - I'm saying a major power should absolutely be interested in an unexplained phenomenon it's forces just witnessed.

Wait, how in the hell would the topic go public, when it's military officials that would question him behind closed doors? And to an enemy nation, nontheless? Do they not practice confidentiality or opsec? How is such a military even supposed to function? It's ridiculous...

Also, I would at least expect Serena to try asking him about it, even if he refused to anwser or genuinely didn't know. It shows that there was thought put into worldbuilding and characters aren't just hollow plot devices or exposition givers.

Well, some Empire's military ships do have research labs with researchers on board (Lestarius does, but not sure if it's currently implemented into the ship or if it was later addition) and I'm sure that if they learned Hiro was the source of all this information they would be asking him all sorts of information. Serena is a noble and military person. Curious as she is but before the start of the operation all she cares about is dealing with the threat since that's her job. Finding out how living crystal's do these stuff is best left for researchers.
But she already did ask him to tell her everything he knows about the crystals and he did so. He did warn her his knowledge is not-all-know and when asked how sure about his information he answered about 50%.
She can see there's nothing more to know and he's clearly not a researcher. Had he know that crystals could predict enemy fire, which is what we most probably could see happening, he'd just flat out say so.
And asking just that one question wouldn't even change anything after it's all over. Had she poked a bee's nest she might've ended up with more workload... but maybe she will ask him later while en route to the capital. Honestly I don't remember if she does or doesn't, but they spend some time traveling together there.

No way it would exceed Manga, unless it gets multiple Seasons.

The upcoming Anime, would probably end around LN Vol.4 plot (Manga wise, until Chapter 39 end).
Because Chris's arc is the biggest one with most action in the earlier plot, and also introduces Mei.

Or they would end at the arc prior, aka., until LN Vol.2 plot (Manga wise, until Chapter 21 end).

Checked out the manga again, you make a good point. The plot up until Chp 21 IMO makes a nice stopping point for the season if the anime chooses to take things slow and easy.

Iirc this approach worked quite well for Evil Overlord of an Intergalactic Empire's anime, so it could work for this one too if done right.

Because even if its Military talk, Mercenary Guild is an Independent International Organization in this series, which holds its own power balance against the Military & Nobles of every nation (this is something that is supposed to be mentioned in the next arc). So, any talk that could harm or inconvenience a mercenary could get the Mercenary Guild involved directly (especially if there is no criminal charges applied), to avoid power abuse.

There is also the fact that not everything is always secure, even if data is strictly managed, and foreign spies are around to always steal info from military to leak and exploit.
Just to point out, because of the whole Humans vs. Machine Intelligence war (that was mentioned by Milo back during the Resort Arc), most military database are not managed by MI's, so they are not as secure as one would think.

As for Serena, she doesn't ask much, as she wants to be on good side of Hiro, as being in good work relation with him is beneficial for her.

Another point to mention is that, the Manga plot is a lot condensed than Light Novel.
So a lot of plot points have been skipped, including Serena trying to ask for the source of Hiro's info, which he avoided to answer properly.
Or, how talk of psionic ability is mentioned early on in the LN, while Manga had skipped it all until now (in the LN its already mentioned that Elma as an Elf can use magic, also called as psionic powers).

Just going to say, some people have seen the early screening of the first episode of the Anime, that was aired in a Anime Convention around June-July.

And they have commented that the first episode does show Mei in the background.

But you assume here that he'd object to being questioned and contact the guild? That's fine, at least it would demonstrate that the entities of that world have agendas and will attempt to work accordingly. Right now they are little more than background for the MC, they seek to only do things that revolve around him.

This does not make sense from the military's point of view. Think about it, they can take the remote chance that info gets leaked (like everyone does IRL) and possibily learn important intel or they may go "nah, there's a risk someone else would also learn it" and get nothing at all. No one that ever lived would go with the second option.
