On one hand it would be shitty if we lost MC, because even with his walk-through, I do not feel like the remaining characters could fill the hole that would be left. Not to say the author had no way of pulling that off, just stating i think it would be difficult.
Still i feel like the resurrection could have waited until next chapter to draw out the suspense

Wheeeel, heroic sacrifice is widely acknowledged graceful and poetic end of a character arc, so it wouldn't be bad (and from literary standpoint even better) to go from here even without death retconned.
