One down... To be honest I liked this more with the drama and mystery, the combat is kind of "in the way" but it's not overstaying its welcome so it's fine.
There's still drama, albeit of a different kind, and definitely still remaining big mystery as we head onwards towards the wrap-up, but kinda inevitable that it'd reduce right? The whole thrust of the story is towards them figuring out the truth, confronting the darkness of the past and present and forging a new future. It'll get wrapped up, but it still could end a number of ways in terms of who survives or not (and how), and what comes after, so still feels like some drama to me. They've made some major strides yet at the same time the enemies still have cards up their sleeves and a lot of the effort ultimately still boils down to keeping anyone from gaining perfect information too early.

I will say though the fighting is pretty satisfying in part because it feels exactly like it should given who is involve: a bunch of mimicking nobles with powers and noble-raised kids, half with powers. It's notable that the whole setup is a kind noble family that lost some sort of power war and fled to a backwater before getting dark-mimick'd by surprise. They didn't have any real soldier/warrior aspect, and in turn neither do the Shadows. It's an interesting flourish around the very nature of the Shadows and their operation, they haven't faced any significant combat but rather hide themselves except when doing sneaky stuff or internal stuff where they primarily depend on their super powers. For the island overall they're using broad based mind numbing, not conquest through war.

So the fighting we see is perfect in terms of mistakes and doing things that an actual experienced knight or soldier or even "warrior noble" type never would, because that archetype doesn't even exist here at all. Everyone is sorta bumbling through as best they can on their own wits and strengths. Author really has the world building nailed down and pays attention to details.

All the barks and no bite. Ryan really disappoints me. I would dare to say he would lose in a combat against Dorothy even though he is the ferocious and violent one while Dorothy is the elegant and calm one

expecting to not have a combat in a power-driven story is pretty too much. maybe what you dislike is the heavy firepower type of combat because the first part of this series is already have 'combat' but presented with tricks and plots. that's understandable. but in a world of power and ability, there will always be a person that thinks or can overpower intelligence with raw force

I appreciate how the combat in this still isn't a focal point even as powers become more and more prominent. So far all none of the battles have depended on flashy powers, but on strategy. Ryan's defeat was from whittling down his stamina and then using water.

And the violence actually feels really visceral compared to more action-oriented series because it's so rare. Like, that scene of Ryan cutting Eileen's tongue made me wince, and I read a LOT of horror manga so I'm no stranger to gore.

I have to appreciate how the fights feel like they have actual stakes. The rest of the story has set up things so that, outside of Kate and Emilyko and their debutante class, it genuinely feels like anyone can die. I haven't read many manga that can accomplish that while also having such depth to the characters.
