i think calling it horrendous is a bit exaggerated. i've seen translations were about every second panel had one or multiple mistakes, not to mention all the garbage unedited MTL you sadly find more and more these days

i think u-toon takes the cake for worst chapter translation i've ever seen though. they managed to spell a character's name different four times - IN THE SAME CHAPTER

It's been awhile but was it the one where a guy and his female childhood friend are going to form a party, then she drops him like he's a bag of shit for being weak right away? I'm pretty sure they managed to get it wrong three times on one page. Almost impressive in a retarded kind of way.

Dude, I've been there. I've SEEN shit you'd never believe. I fuckin' read chapters of Apotheosis, a wuxia, translated by mangatoon...

Nonetheless, I think we still need to be critical and try to keep a standard here. Especially when the issue is simply proofreading. Lack of proofreading is just a waste of a translation and all the hard work that goes into it. Imagine blowing an entire translation because of the remaining 10% of work ._.

that i can 100% agree on. i always roll my eyes when i see credits where the TL and proofreading is the done by the same person - that is not how proofreading works

nonetheless, gotta stay reasonable with the criticism. having a few small mistakes here and there is regrettable and a bit annoying, but it's a fan translation in the end. horrendous is a fairly strong word and should only be used for actual garbage releases that are riddled with mistakes and bad translations that you can identify immediately

no the one i meant was a culinary isekai where the FMC opens a cafe in the other world. in one chapter u-toon managed to spell the name of her fiancé wrong three times and right once. how the fuck do you even manage to do that?

I think the one I mentioned was also U-toon. So, if I had a nickel for every time U-toon managed to get a characters name wrong three or more times in a single chapter, I'd have two (that we know of). That's not a lot but it's pathetic that it happened twice.

yeah, and the worst part is that those are paid commissions. imagine you pay money for a translation and they spit in your face like that. idk how they keep getting commissions tbh, people must have really low standards these days i guess.

Somehow I keep forgetting that they actually take money for that shit. You could literally do better for free by feeding it into google translate and doing some basic proofreading. lol
