This plot would be a lot easier to stomach if she just firmly believed abstinence improved performance. Whether people think that's stupid or not, it's still a very real practice some athletes believe. It's better than acting like there's not dozens of solutions to not getting pregnant. I still do think this series is redeemable, but it'll be based on how long the author wants to prolong this gag.

Yeah the only combination I can think of here that is plausible is that:

A) FMC doesn't want to use birth control, because chemicals could mess up her body for training (Real concern) and has concerns that a copper IUD could come loose due to volleyball (which isnt really possible) or just straight up copper allergy

and

B) One of the protagonists has an allergy for latex (and all the other ingredients for non-latex condoms)

As implied in this, the reasoning would be that he at least thinks she's physically stronger than him (quite unlikely but not impossible), going to that would risk her overpowering him and doing it anyway.
