I think it is more so her not wanting to hear about his ex. That is a very normal thing for someone who is interested in you to not want to hear.

Except in this case she’d hear that he hates being near her, that his ex dumped him and was a huge bitch, but now she’s pretending nothing happened.

The ex is someone to be wary of both personally and potentially professionally as well. Useful information I’d say.
