Is there option to hide chapters by Official Publisher from Latest Updates?

This is not a viable solution. I could be, if the block list was uncapped, but it's not.

The block list caps at 25, and I can tell you from the personal experience of having hit it, there are way more than 25 bulk uploaders out there. It is literally impossible for me to block any more of these groups.
As far as I know, all the (current) outlink chapters (from all the different official groups) are being added through the account NotXunder, so instead of blocking groups, you can also just block a single uploader.

y'all use the block function?
I do, but there are manga I actually follow, since the last chapter is free for a couple of days.

The problem are the links that are already dead on arrival, and for manga that were completed years ago...

Anyway, back to that 69 page back-log

I always check if there are chapters from other translators. If not (or they are hidden) I move the title to another platform and deleate it here. And if there are chapters from other translators, I move and deleate it as well, not like it will stay here anyway. The chance of MangaDex deleating titles (or rather, chapters from titles) without notice increases every day.

Rate appears to have increased dramatically, presumably to reach the goal of wrapping up in "a few more days" versus end-of-month. I stand by my conjecture that one massive dump is better than stretching it out but the idea was a super short dump <<a day, not shutting down the updates feed for [X] whole days...

It has, but there's a limit to how fast they can jam the new entries into the database without causing knock-on problems. Back of the envelope, this should be done someplace around 1800Z on the 8th, provided nothing else complicates the process.

That's certainly a fair point, but the better solution imho would be to do a number of smaller surges (at basically the limit of the bot) for an hour or two a day. I think the userbase would have been far less peeved if the site had 80% functionality for a quarter instead of 0% for a week.

BoE calculation, assuming we're at max velocity now eyeballing the front page gives me 5s/link, which means 12/min and 720/hour. For 35k uploads, with judicious rounding that's what, 50 hours of uploads total? Do two hours a day at lowest estimated user activity and the project would get finished in less than a month (25 days), and users would have 22 hours/day of usual, uninterrupted upload activity.
(Edit: it actually looks like 6s/link, so D&D math tells me that's 600/hour or 60 hours for 36k links. Logic otherwise is the same)

And with far less reee! than a two-three day shutdown would be. Who am I kidding, there would be just as many fine folks raging and blithely avoiding any actual thought about it :fml:

You know what is worse?
Those links from mangaUP are fake.
They do NOT lead to chapters they are advertising, like 23.1, 23.2 or 23.3, but to manga main page.

Also.. well, with how much they took away, how much you can't read here on mangadex... why visit here anymore?

As annoying as all this chapter spamming is, it could be mostly alleviated with a simple UI change on MangaDex's part. Just give me an option to group all updates of a manga together so multiple uploads don't take up unnecessary space in my update feed.

There's absolutely no reason why I should be seeing the same exact manga showing up on both page 1 and 2 of my update feed, and this is something that has griped me for much longer than this most recent onslaught of uploads.

Doing what you're suggested is not a simple UI change. Pagination is done in the backend and only retrieves x records (page size) after skipping y records (page number). The frontend can then only work with the information given. It wouldn't know that there were chapters of the same manga on an earlier page.

This is all based on a query on chapter records sorted by publish date (+various filters). The title information is joined in after getting the paginated chapter result. What you're suggesting requires the query to group the chapters by title before doing the pagination. This is all not impossible to do, but it makes the query crazy slow. And the feed query is already the slowest query MangaDex has. So don't expect that to happen.

The best you can do on your end (if you haven't already) is to max out the pagination parameters in your account settings.

That should reduce whatever duplicates you'll see to some degree.

It's no different than when a Japanese publisher does the same. Is it a bad experience for a consumer? Absolutely. Is it official? Also absolutely.
the question is: what is considered the source material/ reference? from my understanding it is the japanese publication. either the chapters released in the magazines or the tanks. not what some english publisher decides to do.

i will stick to my example of chapter 27 of happy sugar life. the originally published japanese chapter was one single chapter. even in the english print book-release it was one single chapter.

splitting it up in three parts for digital release is not true to the source material.
it is an unlegit alteration of the source material such as an altered (heavily localized/ rewritten/ dialogue censored) translation.

it is a way to rip off the readers by making them pay for one chapter at the price for three chapters. its a scam. it is fraud.

everyone who respects the source Manga, true translations and has love for the medium should stay away from shit like this as far as possible.

that MD started to add and thereby promote this shit is a huge further step in a completely wrong direction on this platform.

that the reader does not ignore / skip chapters from blocked groups really breaks the reading experience in these cases where there are now multiple publisher link chapters between actual chapters (again happy sugar life chapter 27 and following just as one example of many , many more)

MD should just add one link in the header of the title page to the english publishers title page and thats it.
the vast majority of these links dont take you to the chapter anyway but to the page of the title instead.

i am missing mod response here and in other recent topics as well.
have they given up ? have they moved the support and responses intirely to Discord?
are they waiting for the "storm" to pass until they show up again only to ignore everything that was going on here in the meantime ?

I've done it a few times now, but I always feel bad when I block an official publisher. Reading uploads from unofficial scanlators is already in that weird gray area of legality and there's always that sort of pressure that I should read the officially licensed stuff (especially if the scanlator says it directly in their chapter notes)...

But when an official publisher does come by and has their links actually uploaded and I have the chance to read from someone that did support the author... Rather than finally supporting the author, I almost always find some reason to end up blocking them. They're too spammy / they're 3 years behind the current scanlators / they only upload the first chapter of each volume / they upload the chapters in parts when everything else has them in a convenient whole chapter that makes either of them annoying to read.
