This is a completely appropriate use of the term. They are talking about the martial arts manga trope where a character immediately loses to the MC in chapter 1 and how it's weird that Suedo isn't actually a jobber.

All slang has appropriate uses that doesn't mean it's not annoying. People say job and jobber every two seconds when talking about every named character in any martial arts manga. I can appreciate that the translation is going for that kind of thing but it's just annoying to me. I could go to any YouTube comment section and see the same annoying ass comments lol

Ahh, I get what you mean then. I try to keep out most slang unless it's dialectic or an exact fit (like here) for this exact reason, but I suppose "jobber" to martial arts manga fans is always going to be the king of annoying slang, especially when it's so frequently misused, too.

I definitely hate to see the word used in reference to Baki elsewhere, because it's almost always just being slapped on the loser of a fight where, in reality, the intention of the loss is for that character's development and not their victorious opponent. Kehaya and Alai Jr. are perfect examples of that. But as I say, here I thought it might've flown since it's the correct usage and they're talking about how there isn't actually any jobbing going on.

He's credited, but those kinds of credits on spinoffs really just mean the author said "sure, why not?"

This is such an odd idea for a comic, but a good one too. I'd actually like to see a series like this, but where it branches out to comics and manga of all sorts -- sort of like a comic that does comic reviews and recommendations.

Happened the same with ntr. For the longest time it was a disgusting hentai cuck fetish and suddenly morons started shouting it while drooling out of their mouths for everything in a romance story, like when a rival appeared in a romance manga and things like that. The term has stayed for anything cheating related and at least is not used for everything anymore. It was absolute waterhead behavior.

You could probably replace it with "fall guy" or mention that the character "took a dive". Those are terms usually used to indicate that someone was told or forced to lose to make the other fighter look better.

For example Bruce Willis' character in Pulp Fiction, or more recently Mike Tyson.
