"Master" would still be more accurate and natural, as "sensei" used in the context of creatives are working masters of a craft/trade.

In English, or translations into English, you don't really say "Author So-and-so is doing this and that" and replacing it with "Manga-ka is doing this and that" is a baffling choice when "Sensei" is better when going the Japinglish route
