Aahhhhh... man... the fight in this chapter was just getting to the good part, but they had to split the chapter :haa:

I can't help but laugh at this fight, it feels like parody. It goes on about how strong and smart the monster is then, DELETE. Then a dragon just comes out of no where for some reason. Was the dragon foreshadowed at all and I just forgot? This is the most "And then, and then, and then, and then, and then" fight I've seen in awhile.

Yeah, the prior chapter has it mention that Konoe senses 'Three Commanders' and calls them all Disaster class. The setup is there for intelligence to show that it wasn't just happenstance the Hecatoncheir targeted Konoe in a way he couldn't dodge, but also that the Wind Dragon was using the Hecatoncheir as a decoy (the LN explicitly calls it so). It is also important world building in general for later.

I mean, it is also meant to be a bit of a showcase for how overwhelmingly powerful an Adept of the Life God is. Sure, it may have been a bit stronger to visually show off how strong the Hecatoncheir was, or why even the strongest regular adventurers/mercenary forces crumble. . . but that isn't really what the story is trying to showcase at the end of the day.

Shouldn't the monsters have a rough idea of how dangerous the Adepts are? Surely they should have a 'let's just avoid Adepts' plan, or something?

I'll look forward to see what kind of shenanigans the author has to offer to use, as of now it just feels kinda silly power scaling masturbation without much of that said power scaling

Having read the light novel this is just the intro to show that adepts are extremely powerful, but the main focus of every battle from now on is going to be unique magics.
Unique magics exist for both monsters and humans and they are basically rule breakers.
I guess that's all I can say without spoiling the story, but the fights get pretty interesting after this tutorial.

I mean, next part of the chapter should explain some of that, but. . .

I'll give a bit of background stuff that is explained later on as a spoiler.

The basics are a bit three fold, most monsters aren't intelligent enough to be beyond basic instincts. In general, the lower the rank the more instinct driven the monster. Compounded with the fact that all monsters are actually blessed by the Evil God. So they are driven to attack humans. And the greatest enemy of the Evil God is the Life God. So a lot of the Disaster and Calamity class monsters were given special attention to by the Evil God. So the warped intelligence of the Disaster and Calamity class in general get bent toward that consuming hatred.

That being said, it isn't a perfect match to say the higher the class the more intelligent the monster. As with everything, individual values do apply.

Also, not every Adept is as martially focused as Konoe. They are still heads and shoulders above basically anyone that isn't an Adept, but our MC kind of has to be better at that aspect than most. Either way, If they can take out any Adept, almost any monster will try no matter how fruitless the result. After all, they only need to slip up once.

If this is what an ‘adept’ person can do like, I’m very curious what an expert or master might be able to do :)

Half chapters, Monthly release AND a novel adaptation? This has no chance of finishing the story. I'm guessing 3 volumes before it gets canned.

I feel the MC will perform a Shoryuken and the dragon's head will go flying.
