Not sure what the correct phrasing should be, but the grammar is definitely off.
(Is it meant to be "the director" perhaps?)

I feel like it might be "I never imagined that you, Director, were directly involved." Clearly the man he's talking to is some higher-up like a Director as opposed to one of the agents.
