Even Michio passivenes is not strange in all this, as he didn't even want to take her, no matter how pretty, exactly because of her problematic personality. But the Duke and even his wife insisted, probably because even if it might get harsh it was possibly the best way to ensure her survival.
Despite her problematic personality and other possible social complications he's aware/wary of, he did want her. He says so himself. Also, I have a strong feeling that the Duke only offered it for Cassia's sake, to not upset her. Personally, he would be only glad to wipe out the remaining inconvenience once and for all.

Haven't read the novel in a hot minute, but didn't he openly tell the Duke that it is bad idea to place her in his home, given how displeased she is with the idea, sure he didn't fight long against it, but still

I don't know what to make from the last page. Is it just tension, or just awkwardness? Or like, wtf is going on situation and tryna break the ice somehow.

Chapter 118:

That reminds me, Rutina was 15 years old when I appraised her.
She is young.
And she is Villager Lv2.
Low.
You want to say her abilities as Earl is unknown because she is 15 years old?
And she is Villager Lv2 as well.
The subjugation of the labyrinths in the territory is not advancing, so it is necessary to immediately put things in order so that the subjugation advances as fast as possible.
People will feel uneasy without a leader with some experience and achievements

Also, what you refer to isn't about her forming a party, it's a standard method used by nobles where small children are accepted into a party of explorers, while not going to the labyrinth themselves, they still get a share of XP earned by others, thus gaining levels. Even though this method was (supposedly) used on her, she didn't rise past Lvl 2, so it was a pure formality.
Guess I was wrong I could've sworn I remember her being more active than her LN counterpart. Either way, my point still stands if the author wasn't palnning on doing anything substantial with her situation beyond a noodle incident, I prefer the retcon

To each their own, but I don't find it natural that someone whose father just got murdered takes it graciously and readily agrees to cooperate with his murderers without so much as blinking an eye. Even considering how crappy a character the late Earl was.

Oh, wow! Michio is going to use egg yolks to make a completely new culinary cre- It’s mayonnaise isn’t it IT’S ALWAYS THAT DAMN MAYO
That always bugs me, because mayo is like, one of the most ancient sauces. Casual reading says that the French "invented" it in the 18th century at the Spanish Port of Mahon, combining French cuisine with local ingredients and a sauce base that the local chefs used... but it's the same thing as the ancient Roman 'Oam Sauce' (name isn't a surety, but they had an ancient wine-vinegar-and-egg-and-olive-oil emulsification recorded nearly two millenia beforehand with Apicius that IS mayo; likely originates even further in the past, but that's the earliest reference as a culinary sauce that we have a record for). Toum is even older, as is Aioli (All-i-oli, "allium and oil").

Thanks for the chapter o7

Btw, does anybody know where i can read the WN or LN online or with an app? I remember reading the WN way back, but cannot find a website to read it now.

Also, what chapter in the WN or LN is it in this chapter?

I feel both of those actions comes from Roxanne's serious and no nonsense nature that makes her take on responsibility for smooth atmosphere and peaceful lives at their home. She sees Sherry working hard for that goal as well, so obviously she's going to make sure to point Michio towards uplifting Sherry's spirits when the insecurities pile up. They witness Rutina not only being uncooperative, but outright hostile. Openly stating that she would throw Michio to the wolves, if it got her a sliver of a chance, to get her status back. And of course they would nip it in the bud, before she endangers them all. Tragic circumstances nothwistanding, as they all have their own sad backstories, and even morso as they finally found a safe haven, they would fight for it.

Even Michio passivenes is not strange in all this, as he didn't even want to take her, no matter how pretty, exactly because of her problematic personality. But the Duke and even his wife insisted, probably because even if it might get harsh it was possibly the best way to ensure her survival.

I hope they won't cut it out, even if it paints the cast a bit darker gray, as I find all the moral shades here interesting.
The issue to me is that there was nothing of consequence to the perpetrators, that was a bit sad.

From what i remember,

At the time had one of the best healing class of the system, so in my head-cannon Sherry was asking the elf girl how to show respect Michio and for every wrong answer Roxanne viciously beat her up and healed her immediately after.
that is sadly the least worse case scenario, yeah

[shrug] As was said above, he's just not that good of a person, and never have been. Closing his eyes, letting the inconvenient situation resolve by itself, and pretending nothing happened was always his favourite way of dealing with problems. Maybe mangaka will try to do something about that piece, we can only hope...
i hope they do, i mean, in 8 to 10 years when the manga reaches that part...

I mean, it is really sad that in WN the girls commit a cruelty that could be avoided by a more wise leader, and the MC acts like a spineless jerk instead, but none of it is inconsistent with their characters and the situation in general, no matter how we wish it was different. While in the LN, the author chooses to discard the whole awkward subplot instead of resolving it, but at the price of forcing the characters to act in an unnatural way. Which is also a spineless decision, in my books.

That’s the thing. It always comes down to the author wanting the protagonist to introduce some Secret Hereby Unknown Invention to this poor isekai world that will make him seem like a saint in their eyes, and almost every time it just comes down to “oh they don’t have the sauce I will make them the sauce and they will revere me for making the sauce mmmm the sauce”

But that assumes that the isekai world is mentally handicapped, because if it was edible someone would’ve tried doing it already. Like, we eat everything and anything. The only way you would be able to create a true culinary revolution was if you brought new ingredients with you, because just taking stuff people already have and going “see, this is the issue you didn’t emulsify your yolks” is something they would’ve discovered in a few years on their own anyway.

If you really wanted to revolutionize things you’d make, like, a steam engine or something. But introducing an Industrial Revolution to the world, aside from certainly helping to destroy it, would also lead to them severely outpacing you and that doesn’t work if you want your Ordinary Japanese Guy to be treated as the second coming of Christ

Oh I get it, I do, in fact I absolutely prefer that depiction of Rutina and 100% agree that it's a far more interesting character, but if the writer isn't going to do anything substantial with it, then what's the point of the realism? I would be pissed if they retconned say an arc of her Father hiring some bandits to retrieve Rutina, but ultimately betrayed and killed him then went after his daughter for their own purposes. At some point they corner Michio and he has to fight to keep her and that's ultimately what defrosts her since she would understand it would be better for Michio to just let her be taken. However what we got is a Noodle Incident that makes Sherry and Roxanne kinda look like bullies

It's not necessarily true that they'd try something already; for example, in Hazure Potion, monsters despawned on death and chickens didn't exist, only basilisks and cockatrices, and only the MC was able to create an effect to protect from/cure petrification; people just didn't mess with them because they were so damn dangerous and rare and they didn't drop something they thought of as edible when killed. Chopping off the snake tails so they couldn't petrify and would lay eggs that could then be consumed was something completely at odds with the common sense of the world. That's a damn good justification, IMO.

Thanks for the chap! Not that fond of mayo but i can imagine other egg sauces would be good, idk if there'd be worries about salmonella but i guess with magic or potions you can debuff any toxins

Woo another sherry arc

Harem stuff aside i don't think Mc wants to stick out/get attention even if "inventing" stuff as a side hustle might make a bit more money on top of dungeon grinding altho other than happening to know a bit of kendo it started out with him being a shut in(?) that was basically preparing To commit suicide so i imagine he's not that ambitious but i assume other than "normal" or slightly poorer ppl most would rely on magic (idk if anything more advanced than carriages have been invented versus paying an adventurers to go to different towns tho idk how common it is for non combatants to use that service)

Reading around the spoiler tags here is killing me... I am very tempted to read them, but letting my imagination connect the dots is more entertaining in the long run, when I finally get to that plot point in the manga and everything finally clicks.

Roxanne needs to be the main wife, and the other girls need to be concubines for this to actually be a working harem.
It might seem counterintuitive to have a pecking order in a harem, but I’ve played enough Crusaders Kings to realize having multiple lovers who are vying for affection leads to someone getting poisoned.

Finally some alone Sherry time, i hope it lasts some time.
Roxanne was great there, very sensible, which also makes even even more upsetting to know about future events, when she mind broke one of the slave girls, like, it still doesn't make sense how she got away with that...
Wdym by that? Why is roxanne mindbreak another slave woman? And who is it? I guess it's the last, the blonde elf noble girl, right? I'm perfectly fine by that. Roxanne is the best gurl for me, always

As I said, in the WN Rutina doesn't try to hide her feelings about her father being murdered by "that man" (the Duke), and herself being given as spoils of war to the very man instrumental to his demise. It continues for some time, until, one day, Michio leaves for some shopping, and returns to see her prostrated on the floor and profusely apologizing for her misconduct. Roxanne and Sherry look quite satisfied by this sudden change, while Miria and Vesta... are scared shitless. Of them, it is assumed.

Not long ago, Roxanne was ready to beat up the elven village chief for being rude to Michio, and Sherry is openly racist towards elfs (and merchants). You gotta face it, they're not some pure angels incapable of wrongdoing (as much as Michio feels that way). And it's even debatable how correct they were in handling the situation the way they did.
