Regardless of its quality, I appreciating anyone taking the effort to dig up an old oneshot like this.
The art is cute, but even for a <40-page oneshot, it is meandering and random. I am utterly sick of gender-bending stories where a guy gets turned into a girl and their primary-to-sole expression of masculinity is to petulantly whine that
they're still a guy, yet never
really question their concept of gender, until they either change back or the story gets them to accept it by trivilizing their complaints. (That's how you know if the author
really believes a character is a woman...)
This may be the most laughable version of that sequence of events: Ikumi spends the whole thing running around and shouting, only eventually realizing the thing that changed them
very obviously won't change them back, but then accept everything else with it because the story is out of pages. I don't know which part is worse: that or Ikumi concluding their problem was "being too negative" right after
nearly being raped.
Also love how much time is spent pointing out how Ikumi's been completely screwed out their legal identity. (Had half a chance to let the government think she's still a dude, in which case they would recognize her marrying another woman like Aizawa, but her having bigger boobs is more important.) I'm sure a college student like Aizawa is fully-equipped to support an undocumented housewife.
Nah she would've chosen to become a girl at some point regardless. That's what the button was about. Same with "will I get bigger boobs" which is a thing other trans girls ask.
I dunno what the last button would've been, maybe the choice of marriage?
"Ikumi is perpetually-single because transbian neuroses negated all their charisma" is not wrong, but they don't have enough textual characterization for any interpretation to be wrong.
[I wrote the rant below, but I'm emphantically not ranting
at you, or any other poster here]
I will firstly consider "choice about whether to change your sex" to mean "Would Ikumi
tolerate being a woman specifically as a means to finally get a hookup?" Questionable terms for manga to put gender in (over and over and over again), but I do not complain the 3% of the time the prospective couple is same-sex.
Much more concerning is the implication the breast expansion was also a means for them to hook up... by forcing Aizawa to save Ikumi from being raped by the first man she talked to. Though Aizawa's immediate proposition would perhaps be more romantic if she there got sooner, before Ikumi was grabbed and groped and stripped and shoved to the ground and begging for her life. But she didn't touch a penis, so it's nothing!
