I've got a sneaking suspicion it is the Japanese prejudice against glasses at play.
Obviously I hold the opposite opinion, but if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say a lot of Japanese people would believe the glasses make her less cute.... and anyone who actually believes that should probably just die in a fire.
