I don't think the song was meant to be funny. The lyrics are relevant, and kids' shows often have songs that aren't necessarily meant for kids. This song is from a movie, too... maybe the song is targeted at the parents who are watching along with them :)
I think rather than cocky, he's desperate. He believes that failing will means he's forsaken by God, and that he has to go back to Argentina, and that he'll literally die. He's constructed his whole personality around avoiding that.
