Bottle rockets are more about the launch pads if anything. I remember using a PVC pipe with a hose clamp and rubber to seal the gaps for the launch pad, and despite the bottle itself being pretty bad it still flew the farthest by virtue of everyone else's launch pads being some flimsy cardboard...
