I was trying to guess by chapter name, but haven't had much success, does anyone know off the top of their head what chapter he got Amane's parents' approval?

The earlier chapters were nuked, so I can't be sure and I don't want to go to other sites to check, but as far as I remember, he wasn't treated too well by his family. It could make sense that he is a bit suspicious if so. Along the lines of "everyone told me I was a failure and was disappointed...

Well, it depends on the altitude and a bunch of other factors, but generally, not many mosquitoes in the mountains. In the mountains, at least in my country, many don't even have mosquito nets on their windows.
