I’ve seen this meta plot point used to explain why noble people think female leads are villainesses, but this is the first time I’ve seen it used on the common people AND in favour of the female lead.
I’m hoping he’s the second prince, because it’s pretty common in these villainess stories for useless crown princes to be disowned and their younger brothers/cousins to take their title.
