Amir and Karluk are said to live near Bukhara, which is in modern-day Ubekistan, I've heard people speculate that Karluk is an Uzbek(/Karluk), while Amir is a Kazakh.

I bet next chapter we switch back to Amir and Karluk, so we don't get to see Mister Smith's decision right away.
