Because Japan is a backwards ass country. We should all remember how Minami Minegishi shaved her head and cried in front of millions. And Hirano Aya, the seiyuu for Haruhi and Migi, had a tryst with a band mate and people went ballistic. For all the jokes on how America is filled with prudes, and Japanese is some sort of perverse state, in normal everyday life it's the reverse.
