I'm reading around that the author died, but seems like this serie started in 2017 or before, so it should have enough material to continue and the axe arrived before his passing.
So it was unpopular, is probably complete but the publisher see no reason in completing it, and if it lacked a finale in the novel they can't simply take and write it.
