Not in defense of those fake "reality tv" shows, but in regards to arranged marriages, it's still pretty common in Japan, and a number of studies have found lower divorce rates in arranged marriages as compared to finding a partner on your own.

Though I wouldn't put this couple in the arranged marriage category.

The lower divorce rate is because of more likely to be succesful. Not culturally acceptable would affect both arranged and non-arranged equally.
